Young Farmers is a group of people 18-35 (and sometimes older!) who meet and exchange ideas throughout the year while also incorporating work and play in the promotion of agriculture in our county, district, and state.
Members in the 18-35 age range are eligible for competitions at the state level during Indiana State Farm Bureau Convention. These competitions include discussion meets and achievement awards for those whose lives are totally involved in farming and also those whose main income comes from a job off the farm and are starting in the business of agriculture on the side.
The 2008 Indiana State Young Farmers' Conference is January 25-27, 2008 at the Indianapolis Marriott East. Cost is $300.00 per couple for two nights. This includes meals, entertainment, and speakers. Benton County Farm Bureau will help with this expense, and the cost $200.00 if you just stay Saturday night. Contact Sam Fry ASAP if you are interested in attending. Benton County Farm Bureau members are a part of District 3, a block of eight counties in the mid-northwest part of the state. Each year District 3 teams up with District 1(the far northwestern counties) for a road trip to a neighboring state. In 2007, the group is headed to Michigan July 27-29. Cost is usually around $100.00 per person, which includes lodging, entrance to attractions and points of interest, and most meals. Benton County Farm Bureau will help with this expense, so check your calendar and make plans to join us.
Benton County is looking to replenish its group of young farmers. We encourage all residents of age to become involved in this experience. It promises to provide new friends, new ideas, new lessons, and new sights for all those who participate.
