Minutes from the Benton County Farm Bureau June 17 Meeting
The board members met early, 6:00, for an IFB Strategic Planning Session led by Greg Slipher and Janice Deno. Our regular board meeting began at 8:00.
President Tim Tabert called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance. Women’s Leader Glenda Wallpe followed with a Safety lesson that reminded us to be careful and aware when traveling our roads this summer.
Minutes were e-mailed to all board members prior to the meeting. Steve Wallpe moved to approve the minutes as written, and Curt Puetz seconded this motion. Motion carried with a note that Sen. Sue Lanske’s name was misspelled. The Financial Report was also reviewed by board members.
President’s Report:
Marie Brown: Lana will pick up a card to send to Marie in honor of her many years served on the Benton County Fair Board.
District 3 Summer Cabinet and State Officers’ meeting will be held on Monday, June 21. It starts at 5:30 at the Sportsman Inn in Monticello.
Animal/ Ag Trip to Ohio June 29-30- Still looking for interested people to attend.
Vice President’s Report:
Tim was unable to attend tonight’s meeting.
Women’s Leader Report:
The Fowler Parks Program was very happy to receive our donation. Glenda is going to teach an Ag lesson at the park either June 21 or June 28. The project is called The Green Thumb.
Committee Reports:
Fair Committee: We will be running the popcorn machine but not the ice cream machine.
An e-mail with dates and times to work the fair booth will come out soon. Carrie made a suggestion (after the meeting) to also send a request for help via our web site and FB page. Lana will put it out there to see if there is a response from the social media world.
Young Farmers: To go along with the fair subject, YF and the Benton Central FFA are combining efforts to promote Ag in the fair’s Commercial tent. There will be a Baby Photo Contest, and an exhibit to reach out to kids about farming.

Carrie and Jerry are also hosting a Young Farmers’ meeting at their house June 25 starting at 7:00. There will be a brief meeting then socializing. Families are encouraged to bring children.
Old Business:
Carrie filled out our 990 form. Next year we will be better prepared now that we know what information is required. Thanks again Carrie for your quick work in very little time!
Regional Manager’s Report:

IFB State Convention, with the theme “Your Life, Your Story,” has a tentative schedule ready for view. Hotel reservations may be made starting September 1. The dates for the Convention are December 9-11, with only County Presidents and Women’s Leaders meeting on the 9th.

There are several contests going on for the State Convention this year. One is a “Share Your Story” contest. IFB members may submit video, pictures, or an essay. The top three in each area will be presented and voted on at the IFB State Convention

State Quilt block contest: Each county will design one block to create a quilt that will be on display at the IFB State Convention.

IFB YF Discussion Meet questions are posted. Deadline for registration is November 12. 2010. Go to the IFB website/Young Farmers section to register.
Steve Wallpe made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Carrie Buck seconded his motion, and the motion passed. Out next meeting will be July 15, 2010 at 7:00 in the Fowler office.
