Benton County Farm Bureau participated in the anual Arbor Day at Fowler Park. Our project was to educate the second and thrid graders on sun safety. Many of the kids thought BCFB "ROCKED" because of our cool way to help them detect when their skin has had too much sun. All students made braclets with sun beads, white beads that turn bright in color as they are exposed to the sun. We also talked about skin cancer. Students learned how to tell the signs of a mole that needs to be checked by a doctor, and the importance of helping all family members watch for moles that change in appearance. Farmers as well as kids spend a lot of time in the sun during the summer, and it is very important that we wear our sun screen when we are going to be out for extended time during these warm days ahead.
AG Week at Benton Central High School: Benton County Farm Bureau partnered with Benton Central's FFA students to share agriculture information with the elementary students of Benton County. Students visited over twelve stations to learn more about livestock, grains, produce, and farm safety. Benton County Farm Bureau Board Members Tim Tabert, Jerry Buck, and Lana Wallpe talked with students about being safe on the farm, around both machinery and livestock. We also discussed the importance of wearing helmets and safety gear when riding 4-wheelers.
